Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo was allegedly shot at while attempting to serve a court injunction on her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, amid an escalating succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission, according to a statement issued by the Kwadwo Safo family.
The statement, released on Monday, June 22, follows a shooting incident at a property associated with Israel Safo, where gunfire reportedly erupted during a gathering linked to efforts to install him as the leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission after the death of its founder, Kwadwo Safo.
Witnesses have alleged that armed individuals opened fire during the event, while unconfirmed reports indicate that approximately 15 rounds of ammunition were discharged.
The family said Adwoa Safo, whom it described as the duly recognised head of the Kwadwo Safo family, is in stable condition and responding well to medical treatment following the incident.
According to the statement, Israel Safo and some church elders had planned a private installation ceremony to declare him leader of the mission, despite what the family described as succession directives left by the late founder.
The family further stated that two members of the church initiated legal proceedings and obtained a court order seeking to restrain the ceremony from taking place.
It said repeated attempts to serve the court documents on Israel Safo were unsuccessful, leading Adwoa Safo to personally deliver the injunction notice.
“During the encounter, Mr. Israel Safo discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and also instructed associates at the scene to open fire on her vehicle,” the family alleged.
According to the statement, the matter has since been reported to law enforcement authorities for investigation.
The incident marks the latest development in the dispute over the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo on September 11, 2025.
The family claimed that although the late founder designated Israel Safo as his successor in 2017 and entrusted him with significant leadership responsibilities within the church and its affiliated businesses, that mandate was revoked in 2024.
According to the statement, concerns over the management of some businesses and alleged departures from the church’s founding principles informed the decision.
The family also alleged that Apostle Kwadwo Safo subsequently appointed Adwoa Safo as head of the family and established a succession framework that excluded Israel Safo from consideration for the leadership role.
It maintained that it does not recognise any installation or assumption of leadership by Israel Safo that contradicts the directives it says were left by the late founder.
The family further appealed to members of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the general public to remain calm and allow state institutions to investigate the shooting incident and address the succession dispute through the appropriate legal processes.
As of the time of publication, Israel Safo had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the family’s statement.
