Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee and MP for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, has vowed to take legal action against the contractor working on the Afari Military Hospital, accusing him of contractual disputes and alleged attempts to escalate project costs.

Dr. Ayew Afriyie said he intends to present what he describes as evidence against the contractor, adding that he will pursue the matter in the coming week.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, June 17, he said he would no longer treat the issue along partisan lines, insisting that accountability must be enforced regardless of which political party is in power.

“I am using your medium to sound this clearly to contractors. I am going to take this contractor on next week. I am not going to do NDC, NPP again on this issue. So long as it is the responsibility of government to see to the operation of Afari, I have done that job,” he stated.

He warned that the contractor’s conduct would be exposed publicly, alleging patterns of contractual disputes and cost escalation.

“I would want the good people of this country to know how contractors checkmates the people of Ghana and fleece us. We will name the contractor and shame the contractor,” he said.

Dr. Ayew Afriyie further alleged that the contractor had already received substantial payments towards the project, but was now demanding significantly higher costs than initially agreed. According to him, the development raises serious concerns about cost inflation and contractual accountability in public infrastructure projects.

The MP stressed that he is determined to pursue the matter without political considerations, insisting that the focus should be on protecting public funds.

“He did one after the NPP was in power. They paid him in excess of about 21 million to the actual project cost of $180 million. He is now coming with an escalated amount of about $85 million. I am never going to politicise this. I am coming after the contractor,” he added.
