The Ministry of the Interior has issued a strong advisory to the general public to remain indoors and avoid all non-essential movement following heavy rainfall that has caused flooding in several parts of the country.
The directive comes as emergency services intensify response efforts to manage the impact of the downpour, which has rendered several roads impassable and raised safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians.
As part of the precautionary measures, the Ministry is urging people who are already at home to remain there, while those at workplaces or other safe locations are advised to stay put until conditions improve and movement is deemed safe.
Motorists and pedestrians have also been strongly cautioned against attempting to cross flooded roads, bridges or waterways, with authorities warning that floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose serious risks to life and property.
Meanwhile, key emergency response agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), have been deployed to affected areas to assist in rescue operations, regulate traffic and support affected communities.
In a statement Issued on Monday June 29, the Ministry urged Residents in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground where necessary and report any emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security post or emergency response team.
The Ministry has further urged the public to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel on the ground and rely strictly on official updates as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
