The Awutu Senya East Municipal Education Directorate has suspended morning academic activities in all public basic schools following heavy rainfall and widespread flooding across parts of the municipality.
In a public notice issued on Monday and signed by the Municipal Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Emmanuel K. Asabere Arthur, on behalf of the Municipal Director of Education, the Directorate said the decision was taken to protect the safety of learners, teachers, and other school staff as floodwaters continue to affect movement within the area.
The directive instructs parents and guardians not to send their children to school until conditions improve and it is safe for learners and staff to commute.
Headteachers have also been directed to immediately communicate the suspension to parents and guardians through their respective school communication platforms.
According to the Directorate, classes will resume only after the floodwaters recede and authorities determine that it is safe for academic activities to continue.
The Education Directorate further urged residents to exercise caution, stay away from flood-prone areas, and observe all safety measures during the period.
