After more than 10 years without dredging, drains at the Abokobi Wetlands and Waterway Reservation in the Ga East Municipal Assembly have undergone desilting works as part of the ongoing “Clean Up Accra” initiative.
The initiative, spearheaded by Zoomlion Ghana Limited in collaboration with Channel One TV, the Ghana Police Service, and NADMO, forms part of efforts to restore waterways, improve drainage systems, and restore sanitation within the capital to reduce flooding risks and environmental degradation.
The intervention targets long-neglected drainage channels that have contributed to waterlogging and poor sanitation conditions in surrounding communities.
The desilting exercise is expected to improve water flow within the wetland and strengthen environmental protection efforts in the municipality.
The Clean Up Accra campaign continues to focus on desilting drains, clearing waste, and restoring waterways across selected communities in the Greater Accra Region.
