The traditional authorities in Damongo have announced an imminent enforcement exercise to clear pavements, unauthorised structures, and trading activities around the Damongo Daily Market construction site and the Damongo Lorry Park.
Speaking after a meeting with the Savannah Regional Police Commander, Chalewura Kanamaluwe Techi Dari disclosed that the exercise will begin on Monday, June 29, and continue throughout the week as part of efforts to ensure safety, maintain order, and facilitate the smooth execution of the market project.
Residents with relatives operating businesses within the affected areas have been urged to notify them to relocate to the designated Saturday market to avoid any inconvenience, property damage, or losses during the operation.
He said the directives of Damongowura Kelly Seidu Braimah Boresah I, must be fully respected and complied with in the interest of public safety and development.
“The public is hereby informed that, beginning Monday and throughout the week, a major enforcement exercise will be undertaken to clear all unauthorised structures and trading activities within the affected areas.
Residents are therefore advised to inform their mothers, sisters, brothers, and other family members engaged in such businesses to relocate to the designated Saturday Market to avoid any inconvenience or loss,” the Savannah Regional Police Commander said.
The announcement follows a courtesy call by military officers on the Paramount Chief, during which he reiterated the urgent need to clear all pavements and areas surrounding the ongoing construction site.
Military operations are expected to commence on Saturday, June 27, while the Police are scheduled to begin their enforcement activities on Monday, June 29.
Meanwhile, security personnel will also be deployed during tonight’s Fire Festival celebrations under the auspices of the Damongowura to maintain peace and security.
The public has been advised to conduct themselves responsibly, with authorities warning that anyone found disturbing the peace or inciting trouble will be dealt with according to the law.
Traditional authorities have called on residents to cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and successful exercise.
