Sports analyst Nana Agyemang says Ghana’s defensive discipline was key to their goalless draw against England in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L encounter, describing the Black Stars as “very resolute” throughout the match.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, June 24, Agyemang praised the team’s organisation at the back and their ability to withstand sustained pressure from the Three Lions, who dominated large spells of the game in Boston.
“It was a tough match and the Black Stars were very resolute defensively. You could see the frustration that was on the Three Lions’ face during the course of the game. It was a very good game,” he said.
England controlled possession for much of the second half and created several clear chances, including a late effort from Bukayo Saka that was saved by Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, followed moments later by a header from Nico O’Reilly that struck the crossbar.
Harry Kane also squandered a close-range opportunity earlier in the match, while England introduced several attacking changes in search of a breakthrough, including Marcus Rashford and Eberechi Eze.
Despite the pressure, Ghana held firm with organised defending and disciplined game management, frustrating England’s attacking rhythm.
Nana Agyeman said the Black Stars’ tactical approach reflected clear planning and intent from the technical team.
“You can see that this coach is really set out,” he added.
Ghana also had limited opportunities on the counterattack through players such as Antoine Semenyo and Prince Adu, but were unable to seriously trouble the English defence.
The draw leaves both teams with a point apiece in Group L, with Ghana earning praise for their defensive resilience against one of the tournament favourites.
