The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has departed for a historic royal visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where he is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The visit is regarded as a significant milestone in strengthening the long-standing ties between the Gonja and Asante kingdoms. Accompanying the Yagbonwura is a high-powered delegation of divisional chiefs, elders, queen mothers, and officials of the Gonja Kingdom.
As the royal convoy journeyed through various communities, chiefs, traditional leaders, and residents of Portor, Babator, and other communities lined the streets to welcome the Yagbonwura and pay their respects.
The colourful display of culture, loyalty, and tradition reflected the importance of the visit and the deep admiration the Gonja people have for their Overlord.

The courtesy call is expected to provide an opportunity for the two revered traditional rulers to discuss issues of mutual interest, deepen cooperation between their kingdoms, and promote peace, unity, and the preservation of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
The historic engagement is widely viewed as another milestone in fostering cordial relations and mutual respect between two of Ghana’s most revered traditional institutions. It also highlights the enduring role of traditional leadership in promoting national unity, cultural diplomacy, and inter-kingdom cooperation.
