The Ghana 24-Hour Economy Authority says it has signed four major bankable projects as part of efforts to create about 1.7 million jobs and significantly expand the country’s industrial base.
According to the Authority, the initiatives form part of a broader strategy to boost manufacturing, improve infrastructure, and position Ghana as a competitive player under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Speaking during a discussion on the theme, “Unlocking Africa’s Single Market: How Can Ghanaian Businesses Win Under AfCFTA?” on Channel One TV on Thursday, June 11, 2026, as part of the Citi Business Festival, the Chief Export Development Officer at the Authority, Gabriel Opoku-Asare, said the programme is already recording tangible progress.
“Our goal is to create 1.7 million jobs by 2028 and double manufacturing’s share of GDP from 10 percent to 20 percent. We’ve made some progress; it’s not all talk. Over the last 90 days, we’ve signed four bankable projects,” he said.
He explained that the projects span key sectors of the economy, beginning with energy, which he described as critical to industrialisation.
“We’ve signed an agreement for the Buipe Solar Power project worth 1.4 billion US dollars. We have also signed the Cassava Bioenergy project at Buipe and Damango valued at 6.4 billion dollars,” he stated.
Mr. Opoku-Asare further disclosed that another agreement covers an oil palm plantation project around Kabonwule, valued at about 300 million dollars, aimed at strengthening agro-industrial production.
He added that two operators have been earmarked for the Tamale Cargo Port, a facility he said would play a key role in supporting trade under AfCFTA by improving transportation and logistics.
According to him, these interventions are being supported by additional flagship initiatives, including the Volta Lake Transportation System, the Asutuare Pharmaceutical and Garments Park, the Sanga Agro-Ecological Corridor, and a national poultry programme.
Mr. Opoku-Asare noted that the scale of investment under the programme goes beyond Ghana’s population, targeting wider regional markets.
“We are not only looking at the 30 million people in Ghana, but also the 400 million within West Africa and the 1.4 billion population across Africa,” he said.
The Citi Business Festival 2026 is powered by 97.3 Citi FM and Channel One TV in partnership with ABSA Bank. And it’s proudly sponsored by MTN, Zonda Tec Ghana Ltd. and Petra Trust.
