Energy Analyst and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Kwadwo Poku Nsafoah has urged the party’s leadership to engage former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong through dialogue.
His comments come in the wake of recent remarks by Kennedy Agyapong, who has come under criticism from some members of the NPP following his public attacks on the party’s record in government and allegations of corruption involving public contracts.
Speaking on the growing controversy on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday June 22, Nsafoah said personal disagreements among party members should not be turned into attacks on the party itself.
According to him, Kennedy Agyapong’s frustrations appear to be directed at certain individuals within the NPP, including Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, and other party figures.
He noted that while some of Kennedy’s concerns may be legitimate and deserve attention, public statements targeting the party have created anxiety among sections of the NPP, particularly younger members.
“When Kennedy makes such statements, people become worried. Many young party members are concerned because he has a significant following within the party,” he said.
Nsafoah pointed out that Kennedy Agyapong secured about 23 per cent of the votes in the NPP’s presidential primary, making him an influential figure whose concerns cannot simply be ignored.
He revealed that the party’s elders are aware of the situation and are expected to discuss key issues affecting party unity at upcoming meetings.
“My view is that the issue should be dealt with quickly. Kennedy should be called to the table so that the concerns can be discussed and resolved,” he stated.
Nsafoah, however, rejected suggestions that the former presidential aspirant should face disciplinary action or expulsion from the party.
“I don’t think there should be anything like firing him. The NPP is a voluntary association. People join by choice, and issues should be resolved through engagement and understanding,” he said.
He stressed that the party’s focus should remain on strengthening unity ahead of future elections rather than allowing internal disputes to fester.
According to him, all members of the NPP should remember that their main political opponent remains the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and not fellow party members.
His intervention follows Kennedy Agyapong’s recent warning that he would not be silenced by critics within the NPP. The former lawmaker has insisted that his comments are intended to promote accountability and national development, while cautioning party members against dismissing his concerns as mere bitterness.
