The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) has suspended its industrial action with effect from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following what it describes as fruitful engagements with key stakeholders.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the association said the decision was reached after the intervention of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the hospital’s Board, management and other stakeholders who have demonstrated commitment to addressing concerns that triggered the strike.
“The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) wishes to inform the general public that the industrial action embarked upon by its members has been suspended with effect from today. 9th June, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. This decision has been made following fruitful engagements and the timely intervention of His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Hospital Board, Management and other key stakeholders who have demonstrated commitment towards addressing the concerns that led to the industrial action,” the statement said.
The association noted that although it remains committed to ensuring a full resolution of the issues that led to the industrial action, it had taken into account the impact of the prolonged strike on patient care and public health.
According to KADA, the safety and well-being of patients, as well as the broader public interest, informed its decision to suspend the action while dialogue continues.
The doctors further expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Board, hospital management and other stakeholders for facilitating discussions aimed at achieving an amicable resolution of the impasse.
KADA also acknowledged the support of the National Executive Council and members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), as well as several health sector unions and professional bodies, including the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, the Health Services Workers’ Union, the Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana, the Orthopaedic Association of Ghana, the Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Anaesthetist Association, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists and the Komfo Anokye Pharmacists Association.
The suspension brings to an end days of industrial action at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), which disrupted healthcare delivery and left many patients stranded as consultations and other medical services were affected.
KADA says discussions with stakeholders will continue as efforts are made to resolve the outstanding issues that led to the strike.
The industrial action followed the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, after he announced the suspension of emergency services at the facility.
