Nine individuals linked to the alleged shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court.
Among the accused is the victim’s brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, who arrived at the court premises alongside eight others in a police vehicle under heavy security escort and in handcuffs.
Their appearance in court follows their arrest in connection with an incident in which the former MP sustained gunshot injuries during a gathering on Sunday, June 22.
The shooting reportedly occurred during the installation ceremony of Kwadwo Safo as the leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, an event that has since become the centre of a growing leadership dispute within the religious organisation.
Security and investigative reports indicate that a search conducted at a residence and vehicle in Kwabenya led to the discovery of multiple rounds of ammunition, including 9mm, 45 calibre, and 40 calibre rounds, as well as loaded magazines and two Glock pistols, one of which is said to be registered in the name of Israel Safo.
The case is believed to stem from escalating tensions surrounding the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, in September 2025.
While investigations continue, the family of the late founder maintains that Adwoa Safo was appointed as head of the family by her father and was executing responsibilities assigned to her before his passing.
It further insists that it does not recognise any alternative leadership claims attributed to Israel Safo, arguing that such claims contradict succession directives allegedly left by the late Apostle Safo.
The accused persons remain in custody as the court proceeds with initial hearings into the matter.
