President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s international reserves have increased significantly, rising from approximately $8.9 billion to nearly $13.9 billion, a development he says is contributing to exchange rate stability, improved investor confidence, and a more favourable business environment.
The President disclosed this while addressing participants at the opening ceremony of the Ghana-UK Investment Summit 2026 in London on Monday, June 1.
Speaking on the state of Ghana’s economy, President Mahama highlighted what he described as notable gains achieved through his administration’s economic recovery and stabilization efforts.
He noted that the growth in the country’s international reserves has strengthened Ghana’s ability to withstand external economic shocks while creating a more stable environment for businesses and investors.
“Our international reserves have strengthened considerably, rising from approximately $8.9 billion to nearly $13.9 billion, providing stronger external buffers and exchange rate stability. Interest rates are easing, the Ghanaian Cedi has stabilised and appreciated against major international currencies, and Ghana’s sovereign credit outlook has improved following recent upgrades by international rating agencies.
“Most importantly, business confidence is returning. These improvements are not abstract macroeconomic indicators; they translate into a more predictable investment environment, lower operating costs, and certainty, currency stability, and improved planning conditions for businesses and investors.”
The summit brought together government officials, investors, business executives and policymakers from Ghana and the United Kingdom to explore opportunities for investment and economic cooperation.
