A motorcyclist has lost his life in a road crash involving a Metro Mass Transit bus and a private vehicle along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.

The fatal incident occurred on Saturday, June 13, near the University of Cape Coast, close to the Rashid Sumaila Washing Bay, prompting an emergency response from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to the GNFS, firefighters from the UCC Fire Station arrived at the scene around 4:48 p.m. after receiving a distress call about the collision.

The accident involved a Boxer motorcycle with registration number M-26-WR, a Toyota Corolla bearing registration number CR 44-22, and a Metro Mass-branded Daewoo bus with registration number GS 5267-20.

Preliminary information gathered from eyewitnesses indicates that the motorcyclist struck the side of the Toyota Corolla while travelling on the highway. The impact reportedly threw the rider onto the road, where he was subsequently hit by the oncoming Metro Mass bus.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the motorcycle was extensively damaged. The Toyota Corolla also sustained damage to its side.

Firefighters secured the area upon arrival, managed vehicular traffic and cleared debris from the road to prevent further incidents and restore the smooth flow of traffic.

The body of the deceased was later conveyed by the police to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital mortuary pending identification and further investigations.

Police have since launched investigations to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
