The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that the Sentuo Oil Refinery will increase its refining capacity to 100,000 barrels per day upon completion of its ongoing expansion project.

Speaking at the commissioning of Phase II of the Sentuo Oil Refinery on Thursday, June 25, Jinapor said the expansion marks a major milestone in Ghana’s efforts to strengthen energy security, create jobs, and add value to its natural resources.

He explained that the refinery’s current capacity of 40,000 barrels per day will more than double when the project is fully completed.

“ We are going to take the Sentuo Refinery from a refinery capacity of 40,000 barrels per day to 100,000 barrels per day upon completion,” he said.

Jinapor added that the expansion will also significantly increase employment at the facility, with staff numbers expected to rise from about 800 to around 1,500 workers.

He noted that the project would directly improve livelihoods while contributing to broader economic stability.

“We are anchoring energy security, we are adding value to our own resources, but more importantly, we are creating jobs. From my discussion with the chairman, the employment level will move from about 700 or 800 to 1,500 upon completion of this refinery,” he stated.
