The Ministry of Health has strongly condemned all forms of violence against health workers, urging the public to respect and protect healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to serving patients and communities.
The Ministry made the call in a Facebook post on Friday, June 5, following a video circulating on social media which allegedly shows a relative of a patient physically assaulting and manhandling a midwife at the Community 22 Polyclinic on June 2, 2026. The health worker was reportedly attacked while enforcing visiting hours at the facility.
“The Ministry of Health strongly condemns all forms of violence against health workers and calls on the public to respect and protect healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to serving patients and communities,” the Ministry posted.
“It is worthy of note that violence, intimidation, and abuse against healthcare professionals are unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” it added.
The Ministry stressed that healthcare facilities are places of healing, care and compassion, where health workers must be able to perform their duties in a safe and secure environment free from harassment, threats and physical attacks.
According to the Ministry, acts of violence against healthcare professionals not only endanger lives but also disrupt the delivery of critical healthcare services to patients.
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting healthcare workers and strengthening security measures at health facilities nationwide.
It further expressed solidarity with the assaulted midwife, staff of the Community 22 Polyclinic, and healthcare workers across the country.
“The Ministry stands in solidarity with the affected nurse, the staff of Tema Community 22 Polyclinic, and all health workers across the country. The Ministry of Health remains committed to protecting healthcare workers and strengthening security measures at health facilities nationwide to ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to all Ghanaians,” it said.

The Ministry’s comments come after a six-member delegation, acting on the instructions of Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, visited the assaulted midwife to express support and assure her of the Ministry’s commitment to her welfare as investigations into the incident continue.
