A new poll by the Global InfoAnalytics has found that 63% of Ghanaian voters support the government’s decision to establish tribunals as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s justice system.
The findings were shared by the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, in a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, 2026.
According to the poll, 19% of respondents opposed the establishment of the tribunals, while 17% said they had no opinion on the matter.
The survey comes days after Parliament, on July 16, passed the Tribunals Bill, 2026, following its third reading.
The legislation paves the way for the reintroduction of tribunals under a revised legal framework aimed at strengthening the administration of justice and improving access to legal remedies.
The bill seeks to operationalise Article 126 of the 1992 Constitution, which provides for tribunals within Ghana’s judicial system but has largely remained dormant.
It also introduces constitutional safeguards, oversight mechanisms and due process protections for the proposed tribunal system, which will operate alongside the conventional courts.
During parliamentary proceedings, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, successfully moved for the bill to be read for the third time after seeking approval to waive the mandatory one-day interval between the consideration stage and the final reading.
The legislation, however, has generated debate.
The Minority in Parliament opposed the bill, arguing that Ghana’s existing judicial system should be strengthened through increased funding and reforms rather than the creation of new tribunals.
Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has also urged President John Dramani Mahama not to assent to the bill.
Dr Bawumia argued that although Ghana’s courts face challenges such as delays and case backlogs, creating an alternative justice system is not the appropriate solution.
He maintained that efforts should instead focus on improving the efficiency, capacity, and accessibility of the existing courts rather than establishing parallel judicial structures that could raise public concerns.
