The 2026 edition of the Communication and Media Studies Students’ Association Festival (COMSSAFEST) Seminar is set for Thursday, July 23, 2026, and it’s getting a major diplomatic boost as the Surinamese Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency H.E. Fidelia Graand-Galon, headlines this year’s celebration.

The event will bring together faculty members and students of the School of Communication and Media Studies (SCMS) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), educators, and cultural enthusiasts at the school’s premises for a colourful display of unity and heritage.

COMSSAFEST 2026 will feature participants from across the region showcasing music, dance, cuisine, and fashion from various cultures. The presence of the Surinamese Ambassador adds an international dimension to the festival, highlighting Ghana’s growing cultural and diplomatic ties with South America.

This year’s event is under the theme: Connecting Minds, Amplifying Voices, Creating the Future.

This seminar will explore the historical, cultural, and communication links between Ghana and Suriname, highlighting the role of storytelling, cultural diplomacy, media, and heritage preservation in strengthening international cooperation and fostering global citizenship.

In her keynote address at the Seminar, the Ambassador is expected to speak on cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and opportunities for international cooperation in education, trade, and the arts.

School authorities say the Ambassador’s participation is historic and reinforces the festival’s mission to celebrate culture while opening doors for global partnerships.

Organizers are calling on schools, diplomatic missions, and the private sector to support cultural programs that inspire the next generation.

Beyond The Celebration
Organizers say the festival is more than entertainment. It’s a platform to position the school as a hub for cultural diplomacy and to attract investors and partners to support arts education.

“We want COMSSAFEST to be a place where culture meets opportunity,” one organiser noted. “By bringing in diplomatic missions and the private sector, we’re opening doors for scholarships, exchange programs, and collaborations.”

The event will end with a call to action for schools, NGOs, and businesses to invest in programs that preserve cultural identity while preparing young people for a global world.
