The contractor working on the Adenta-Dodowa Road Project says the project is 63 per cent complete and remains on course for substantial completion by March 2027 despite challenges affecting construction.
Speaking to Channel One TV on Wednesday, July 8, the Project Manager of Oswald Investments Limited, Gabriel Foli, attributed the pace of work to delays in property acquisition, compensation and the relocation of utility services.
He, however, assured motorists that the contractor remains committed to completing the project within the scheduled timeframe.
“The project is a 36-month project, literally three years. We started in March 2024, and we want to hand it over in March 2027. Yes, it is very, very possible; [project is 63% complete],” Mr Foli said.
He explained that the road expansion is more complex than a standard dual carriageway because it includes service roads, requiring additional land to accommodate the new design.
“Because of urbanisation, the traffic demand on this road has increased tremendously and, as a result, there is a need for the road to be expanded,” he said.
According to him, the new design requires significantly more space than the existing road, resulting in the acquisition of several properties along the corridor.
“The impact of the new design on properties has been tremendous. It has taken us over 27 months to engage property owners, to even agree, to even take what government is offering to resettle, to make way for the reconstruction,” he stated.
Mr. Foli added that negotiations with some affected property owners are still ongoing, as not all of them have accepted the compensation packages offered by the government.
“As I’m still talking to you now, we are still contending with people who are not willing. Because there are people that by virtue of the fact that you offer them X amount as the value of their property, does not simply mean that they are going to agree on that X amount,” he said.
Meanwhile, some commuters who use the Adenta-Dodowa Road welcomed the progress made on the project but appealed to the contractor to accelerate work to reduce traffic congestion and travel delays.
