Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Mohammed Amin Adam, has endorsed Paul Afoko for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, describing him as the right person to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

Dr. Amin Adam announced his support during a courtesy call by some NPP leaders and aspirants at his private residence, saying his endorsement was based on Mr. Afoko’s competence and ability to lead the party back to power.

“I support Paul Afoko for National Chairman,” Dr. Amin Adam said.

He argued that the party, now in opposition, needs experienced leadership capable of rebuilding its structures and preparing it for the next general election.

“We know the serious people who can bring us back to power. We do not follow the masses to choose someone to support; we support those we believe have the potential to win and lead the party,” he said.

Dr. Amin Adam said his support for Mr. Afoko does not diminish his loyalty to the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia.

He said Mr. Afoko’s leadership credentials and fundraising ability make him well-suited to help the party recover from its electoral defeat.

“I have worked with Paul Afoko, and I know he is competent. He can also help raise funds for the party because we need money as a party in opposition,” he said.

Mr. Afoko has been campaigning across the country on what he describes as a “3Rs Agenda” of reuniting, rebuilding and returning the NPP to power.

His campaign has focused on healing divisions that emerged following the party’s 2024 electoral defeat and subsequent leadership disagreements, while encouraging former members and supporters who became inactive or left the party to return.

The former NPP national chairman has also pledged to strengthen the role of polling station executives, constituency executives and grassroots members by improving their welfare, providing better logistical support and increasing their involvement in party decision-making.

He has argued that empowering the party’s base will be central to rebuilding the NPP and restoring it to government.
