Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has assured Ghanaians that the country has made significant progress in its economic recovery, expressing confidence that the worst of the economic challenges are behind the nation.

According to the Finance Minister, the government’s fiscal and economic reforms have begun yielding positive results, placing Ghana on a more stable path and reducing the likelihood of a return to the severe economic difficulties experienced in recent years.

Ato Forson made the remarks during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, July 24, a day after he presented the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament.

Speaking with host Bernard Avle, the Finance Minister reflected on Ghana’s recent economic journey, acknowledging that the country had endured a difficult period marked by significant fiscal and macroeconomic challenges.

He, however, maintained that the government’s economic management strategies have helped restore stability and improve key economic indicators, giving the country a stronger foundation for sustained growth.

Ato Forson said the latest fiscal performance demonstrates that the government is adhering to its fiscal targets and implementing prudent policies aimed at maintaining economic discipline.

According to him, the achievement reflects the administration’s commitment to responsible public financial management and continued fiscal consolidation.

“The most important news to the people of Ghana is that we have come from far and we have really gone through some difficult times but thanks to God, we have recovered.

“We are within the fiscal framework. First half of year, we have done 0.9 percent primary surplus as against a target of 0.5 percent.”
