The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has recovered the body of a man from a flooded drainage channel at Kpando-Gabi in the Kpando Municipality of the Volta Region following heavy rains in the area.
According to the GNFS, firefighters from the Kpando Fire Station responded to the incident on Friday, July 3, 2026, after a distress call reported that an individual had fallen into a flooded drain near the Kpando-Gabi M/A JHS.
In a Facebook post, the Service said the heavy rainfall had caused the drainage channel to overflow, creating dangerous conditions within the community.

A search and recovery operation was immediately carried out by the firefighters, leading to the recovery of the body of the male victim from the flooded channel.
The remains were subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and the necessary action.

The GNFS has since urged the public to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall, warning residents against attempting to cross flooded drains, streams, and other waterways.
The Service cautioned that floodwaters can be unpredictable and pose serious risks to lives, especially when people attempt to navigate through swollen channels.
