The government is seeking to establish one of the largest palm processing factories in the country within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area of the Eastern Region.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who made this known in a speech at this year’s Ohum Festival at Kyebi, said President John Dramani Mahama is keen on harnessing the potential of the emerging “red gold” industry and its vast value chain, which is expected to create jobs for young people.

Julius Debrah, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, appealed to Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin to, in consultation with other traditional leaders within the Akyem Abuakwa area, identify and make available to the government a suitable land for the commencement of the construction of the palm processing factory.

Culture was at its best as all traditional leaders within the Akyem Abuakwa State gathered at Eseho, the forecourt of Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi, to pay homage to the overlord as they commemorate the 2026 Ohum festival.

The 2006 Ohum Festival, which was under the theme ‘Rejuvenating our Customs for Sustainability and Nature Connection’, was also used by Okyehene to enstool Nana Kwame Atuapong Ododobibiri as Akyem Abuakwa Amanonehene.

Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, on his part, reiterated the commitment of the government of John Dramani Mahama to equitably distribute development in all districts across the country, stating that the President will render accounts for his stewardship to Ghanaians.

Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin called on the government to prioritise the teaching profession, improve the working conditions of teachers who are change agents and continue to help train and nurture the future generations.

He further encouraged the government to seek financial assistance to enable contractors working on various road projects and stalled projects to return back to the sites to complete the projects.
