The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the deadline for filing second-quarter Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Personal Income Tax (PIT), and May 2026 VAT, National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), and Communications Service Tax (CST) returns after heavy rains triggered severe flooding in Accra and surrounding communities.
The taxes were originally due on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in line with the country’s tax calendar, which requires returns to be submitted by the last working day of the month following the taxable period.
However, the Commissioner-General has approved a new filing deadline of Monday, July 6, 2026, to ease the burden on businesses and individuals affected by the flooding.
According to the GRA, taxpayers who submit their returns by the extended deadline will not incur any late filing penalties for the affected period, although normal sanctions will apply after July 6.
The Authority is encouraging taxpayers to make use of its digital platforms, including the Taxpayer’s Portal, to avoid unnecessary travel and delays amid the disruptions caused by the rains. It also urged businesses facing operational challenges to contact their nearest Taxpayer Service Centre or tax office for assistance.
The GRA described the extension as a targeted relief measure aimed at helping affected taxpayers fulfil their obligations without facing immediate penalties while ensuring continuity in tax administration.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to supporting businesses during the difficult period and safeguarding domestic revenue mobilisation to drive Ghana’s development agenda.
