The Ministry of the Interior has reviewed the curfew hours for communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region as part of efforts to maintain peace and security amid the protracted conflict in the area.
The revised curfew, imposed on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, takes effect from Monday, July 13, 2026, and will now be enforced daily from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. It replaces the previous curfew hours of 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., which took effect on Friday, June 19, 2026.
A statement signed by the Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak noted that the affected communities are Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye and Nkwanta.
The Ministry urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, the youth and residents of the affected communities to exercise restraint and adopt non-violent means to address the challenges confronting the area.
It also reminded the public that a total ban remains in force on the possession of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons in the affected communities.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the communities from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive objects/ weapons, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement emphasised.
