The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has called on contractors executing road projects across the country to ensure that roads under construction remain motorable to minimise inconvenience to road users.
He stressed that the execution of road projects should not render roads inaccessible, urging contractors to put in place temporary measures to facilitate the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians throughout the construction period.
Speaking in the Volta Region on day two of the inspection of the rehabilitation of the Asikuma Junction–Anyirawase Road, being undertaken by UltraNexus, on Thursday, July 9, the Deputy Minister directed contractors to regularly patch potholes, grade deteriorated sections and implement effective traffic management measures to ensure the road remains passable until the project is completed.
He noted that maintaining accessibility on roads under construction is a key contractual obligation and urged all contractors to prioritise the safety and convenience of the travelling public while works are ongoing.
“…I think that interventions such as the one we have seen here, when they are carried out by contractors, will reduce the inconvenience motorists face as a result of the construction. His Excellency has already apologised a number of times to citizens because of these projects.
“He pledged to make the country a construction site, and with the leadership of the Minister of Roads, my boss, we are actually seeing that. But the inconvenience, if it can be minimised, like we are seeing on this road, should be carried out,” he stated.
