President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to consciously reject bitterness, intolerance and all forms of divisive behaviour, urging citizens instead to prioritise unity, dialogue and collective hope as the country advances its national reset agenda.
The President made the appeal during the 2026 National Day of Prayer held in Accra on Wednesday, July 1, where leaders from government, the clergy, traditional authorities and various faith-based groups gathered to intercede for peace, stability and national development.
In his address, President Mahama emphasised that Ghana’s strength lies in its unity and shared identity, noting that despite political, ethnic and ideological differences, citizens are bound by a common constitution, a shared history and a collective responsibility to secure a better future for generations to come.
He stressed that national progress cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of hostility, mistrust or division, adding that the country’s development agenda requires cooperation, mutual respect and a renewed sense of purpose among all citizens.
“Our constitution binds us together, our history unites us and our future depends upon our ability to work together and therefore, let us reject bitterness, intolerance and division.
“Let us reject corruption and cynicism. Instead, let us embrace dialogue over hostility, service over self interest, unity over division and hope over despair. No nation has ever achieved greatness by allowing its differences to define its future.”
The President further highlighted the importance of moral leadership and civic responsibility in building a resilient nation, encouraging Ghanaians to rise above cynicism and work together to confront the challenges facing the country.
He noted that Ghana’s ability to succeed in its resetting agenda will depend largely on the willingness of its citizens to choose collaboration over conflict and shared progress over individual gain.
