The Member of Parliament for Juaboso and Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has expressed confidence that justice will be served following the fatal shooting incident at Sefwi Sayerano in his constituency.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, July 8, Akandoh described the incident as unfortunate and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, expressing hope that the ongoing investigations would ensure those responsible are held accountable.
“I would want to use this opportunity to commiserate with the families of the people who lost their lives in the shooting incident at Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso Constituency. That was unfortunate, and I only hope and pray that the law will take its own course,” he said.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the confrontation between police officers and residents at Sefwi Sayerano in the Western North Region has risen to three.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 6, when officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command reportedly entered the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler. The operation allegedly sparked a confrontation after some residents resisted the arrest, resulting in police opening fire.
Two people were initially confirmed dead, while three others sustained gunshot wounds and other injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
However, the District Chief Executive for Juaboso, Alexander Adu Quist, confirmed to Citi News that one of the injured victims has since died, bringing the death toll to three.
He added that two other victims remain on admission and are receiving medical treatment as investigations into the incident continue.
