The Ghana Police Service has announced a temporary diversion of traffic on the Accra-Kumasi Highway following a road crash involving a heavily loaded articulated truck at the Birimso Bridge.
According to the Police, the crash has resulted in a complete blockage of the highway, affecting both Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound traffic.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, July 18, the Police Service said officers from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) stationed at Kibi had been deployed to the scene to manage the situation and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
The Police indicated that traffic diversions began at 10:00 am on Saturday, with Accra-bound vehicles being redirected through Kibi at Nsutam, while Kumasi-bound motorists are being diverted at Apedwa.
The Service urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with officers stationed along the route as efforts are made to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic movement.
The Police did not immediately provide details on casualties or the cause of the crash but advised drivers to exercise caution while using the affected stretch of the highway.
