The Volta Regional Police Command has destroyed about eight acres of suspected Indian hemp farms at Peki Dzake as part of intensified efforts to combat the cultivation and trafficking of illicit drugs in the region.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the Command’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLU) following intelligence gathered on illegal narcotics cultivation in the area.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Dotse Gablah, Director of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the size of the cultivation uncovered highlighted the continuing challenge posed by illegal drug farming in the Volta region.
He said the Police Command would sustain intelligence-led operations and surveillance to identify, arrest, and prosecute persons involved in the cultivation, distribution, and trafficking of narcotic substances.
DSP Gablah appealed to members of the public to support the fight against illicit drugs by volunteering credible information on suspicious activities in their communities.
He assured the public that all information received would be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
DSP Gablah reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit drugs and urged residents to collaborate with the Police to curb drug-related crimes in the region.
He said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to suppress illegal drug cultivation and trafficking and enhance public safety.
The Volta Regional Police Command reiterated its determination to intensify operations against illicit drug activities as part of measures to maintain peace, law, and order in the region.
