The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Yilo Krobo, Francis Akumatey Addo, has encouraged parents and teachers in the municipality to support Junior High School students to participate in the Citi FM and Channel One TV Literacy Challenge.
He said the initiative presents a valuable opportunity for students aged between 11 and 15 to showcase their writing abilities while gaining national recognition.
Akumatey Addo noted that although the ultimate winner of the competition will receive GH¢10,000 and a laptop, the benefits extend beyond the prizes, as participating students and their schools will gain visibility across the country.
He made the call during the 9th graduation ceremony of Larit Royal School in Somanya.
“Parents and teachers here must guide their students to participate.Though the winner will take home GH¢10,000 plus a laptop, it is not only about the prize. The programme exposes the student and the school to the wider public,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, who also spoke at the ceremony, urged parents to ensure their children return to school promptly when the next academic term begins.
She advised parents to use the vacation period to prepare their wards’ books and other learning materials ahead of reopening to prevent delays and disruptions to academic activities.
The Minister stressed the need for parents and guardians to support schools by ensuring students resume on time to help maintain a smooth academic calendar.
This year’s literacy challenge competition challenges young people to explore the opportunities and challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Ghana’s education system.
This year’s essay competition requires participants to ‘IN NOT LESS THAN 600 WORDS, WRITE A LETTER TO THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION, AS A YOUTH CONSULTANT, DISCUSSING THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) IN EDUCATION. ADVISE ON HOW GHANA CAN EFFECTIVELY INTEGRATE AI INTO BASIC SCHOOLS TO IMPROVE TEACHING AND LEARNING, WHILE ENSURING THAT STUDENTS IN RURAL AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES ARE NOT LEFT BEHIND.
Interested participants have until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, to submit their entries to P.O. Box GP 14123, Accra-Central, or deliver them at the Channel One TV premises in Tesano, Accra.
