The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) says its collaborations over the years with various key stakeholders have elevated tertiary education systems to unparalleled heights.

According to GTEC, the implementation of forward-thinking policies have resulted in a commendable increase in Ghana’s gross tertiary enrollment ratio now standing at an impressive 22 per cent with a gender parity of 0.95 a significant improvement from the past 20 percent.

Professor Yayra Dzakadzie of GTEC underscored the need for Ghana to thrive to achieve a gross tertiary enrollment ratio of at least 40 percent to improve the country’s overall development.

He delivered the speech on behalf of the Director General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai at the Investiture of the Vice Chancellor and induction of key management officers of the Koforidua Technical University on March 22.

“GTEC in collaboration with its key stakeholders including Koforidua Technical University has been steadfast in its commitment to take Ghana’s tertiary education systems to unparalleled heights. The implementation of fourth-thinking policies has resulted in a commended increase in gross tertiary education enrollment.

“It is imperative for Ghana to achieve at least 40% of the gross tertiary enrollment ratio to improve its overall development. This will provide students with the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the demand of the 21st-century workforce.”

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the Koforidua Technical University Professor John Owusu called on all staff to support his management and embrace the change.

“I urge all staff to support our management team to bring about the change we all desire. We will make decisions in the interest of staff, we also recognize that sometimes our decisions may not favour a section of staff, we hope that when certain happens, you will bear with us.”
