NPP govt bought Ejisu by-election with taxpayers’ money – CPP alleges

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of bribing voters ahead of the Ejisu by-election on Tuesday, April 30.

In an interview with Citi News, Sylvester Soprano Sarpong, a communication member of the CPP, claimed that the government resorted to vote-buying to secure the victory.

He suggested that the CPP’s inability to secure a significant number of votes was due to their refusal to engage in bribery.

“Considering the fact that we were not giving bribes like President Akufo-Addo’s party [NPP], which has been wallowing, engaging in bribery festival. I can now believe that there was so much money in Ghana and cash.

“The NPP engaged in bribery and corruption in daylight. They can put me in Nsawam prison if they think I’m lying, I’m telling the truth. The President is my role model, and I don’t think he’s aware of the bribery going on in his party.

“I’m disappointed in this country that the president’s party wallows in massive corruption, that is what is going on. We’re not getting the numbers expected because we’re not able to pay a bribe. That is what is going on. The President’s legacy is at stake.

“We were hoping that we would be able to put up a reasonable showing, considering the fact we have done lots of work. We had no chance against the massive daylight robbery. They were sharing cash, GHC300, and GHS400. I don’t think President Akufo-Addo is aware, he will not tolerate it. The corruption is too much.”

He voiced concerns that the 2024 elections could be marred by corruption if no action is taken to address the current situation.

“This country is doomed if this is the legacy of President Akufo-Addo, and the democracy we’re experiencing in Ghana will take us nowhere. I’m ashamed of the NPP, they bought the election using taxpayers’ money.
