The Lolobi Health Centre, which serves over 1000 residents in the area, is in a state of disrepair, posing a significant risk to the lives of both patients and staff.

The facility’s deplorable condition has prompted staff to issue a distress call to the government and stakeholders for immediate renovation.

Sachibu Abdul-Barki, a senior nurse at the health centre, speaking to ChannelOne News highlighted the dire situation, citing cracks in the building’s structure and inadequate facilities.

He said, “For so many years, there hasn’t been any major renovations on the facility and there are cracks on the buildings and it’s exposing dangers to our clients and we the health workers ourselves. So we want the stakeholders, government and other community members to come to our aid to at least put the structure in a good condition, that will release the dangers on us and our clients as well.”

The staff also lamented the lack of adequate accommodation, with only one facility available for staff, making it challenging for them to perform their duties effectively.

“We only have one detention room and one detention bed, which serves the whole community as well as the neighbour community. so in a case that we need to detain and it’s more than one case, one person will occupy the bed and we find some place to adjust the rest of the patients so that at least we can be able to manage them and if we realize the case is beyond us, we transfer them to the Volta Regional hospital.”

The health centre’s condition has been neglected for years, highlighting the potential risks to patients’ and staff lives if the facility is not renovated promptly.

The staff are urging government and stakeholders to take action to address the situation.
