The Chiefs of Hwidiem in the Asutifi South District and Kenyasi Number 1 and 2 in the Ahafo Region have issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding that the contractor working on the Hwidiem-Kenyasi road resume work immediately.

During a press conference held in Kenyasi, the Chiefs emphasized that if the contractor, Kofi Job, does not resume work, they will mobilize their communities to demonstrate against the government on August 6, 2024.

The Chiefs stressed the urgency of the situation, expressing their frustration with the abandoned stretch and its impact on their communities.

They warned that their patience is running thin and that decisive action will be taken if their demands are not met.

Speaking on behalf of the Chiefs of the three communities, Nana Agyemang said, “No action has been taken by the government after a recent press conference to highlight the urgent need for the government to take action on the prolonged Hiwdiem-Kenyasi road.

“Sadly, the road keeps deteriorating. The chiefs are calling on all citizens to join the planned mammoth or mega demonstration scheduled for August 6, 2024

“While we remained committed to peaceful grievance resolution, we may not have any choice other than to continue to embark on a series of demonstrations, until the bad roads are fixed. We are hopeful that the government and other relevant stakeholders will listen and take concrete steps to fix the roads.”
