Professor Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City University College, has urged new graduates to stay relevant and master their craft as they step into the world to build their careers and serve society.
In his address at the third graduation ceremony, where 67 students were awarded degrees after successfully completing their four-year undergraduate programs, he emphasized the importance of staying relevant in a constantly changing world. He encouraged graduates to commit to continuous learning and adaptation, stay curious, embrace new ideas and technologies, and provide impactful services.
Prof. McBagonluri highlighted values such as empathy, grit, patience, relevance, perseverance, skills, and self-awareness as essential for navigating the complexities of life and making a meaningful impact. He shared that these seven pillars have shaped his journey and career, helping him overcome challenges and achieve unexpected results, and he believes they will be equally important for the graduates.
He acknowledged that graduates would face challenges in their quest for success but emphasized the need for tenacity and patience to overcome hurdles while continuing to learn. “Continue to learn new things, apply knowledge, and be patient. Do internships and engage in voluntary work—it should not always be about money. The money will eventually come, and you will be paid for the skills you acquire,” Prof. McBagonluri advised.
Madam Patricia Obo-Nai, Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Ghana and Special Guest of Honour, commended the graduates for their commitment to excellence. She highlighted that opportunities abound for them to leverage technology and innovations, noting that the engineering focus within arts and science courses should be explored. She also urged institutions and businesses to embed technology in their operations, as it is a catalyst for transformation and growth.
Degrees were awarded in various fields, including Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication, Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Advertising and Public Relations, Human Resources Management, and Marketing.
Mr. Kwabena Afari Boateng, a graduate in Mechanical Engineering and the Overall Best Student, encouraged his peers to “go out there and make their mark.”
