Next NDC govt will end corruption in sale of premix fuel – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has promised to eradicate corruption in the sale of premix fuel and subsidy support to fishermen if the NDC wins power.

Addressing a durbar of Chiefs and residents in Shama, she lamented that corruption has led to non-fishermen hijacking the sale of premix fuel, denying genuine fishermen the opportunity to fish.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that the NDC will ensure transparency in the distribution of premix fuel and fishing gears, unlike the current government’s secretive approach.

She shared her experience from a fishing community, highlighting the struggles fishermen face due to corruption.

“When we were in government and used to give fishing gears like fishing nets, premix or outboard motors to fishermen, it was done openly. Now there is so much secrecy in the sale of premix fuel. We now have people who are not fishermen but doing business with premix fuel.”

“The fish harvested don’t come in party colours and are bought by all persons, so we have to take care of the fisherman. I’m from a fishing community so I understand the sufferings of the fisherman”, she said.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Shama, Emelia Arthur, also criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for deceiving the people of Shama, urging them to give the NDC a chance to address their concerns.

During her 3-day Western Regional campaign tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang visited various constituencies, interacting with traders, chiefs, and residents.

She promised to address development concerns, fix roads, and implement initiatives like the Women’s Bank and 24-hour economy.

Tarkwa Traders supported the NDC, citing past achievements and promises of improved economic opportunities.

The tour will continue in other constituencies, including Essikadu-Ketan, Sekondi, Takoradi, Effia, and Kwesimintsim.
