Parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, has emerged victorious in the Awutu Senya East Parliamentary race, unseating the incumbent MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Naa Koryoo secured 50,886 votes, defeating Hawa Koomson, who garnered 46,638 votes. This victory cements Naa Koryoo as the Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.
Her win is seen as a significant achievement for the NDC, as the Awutu Senya East constituency has been a highly contested seat in recent elections.
Naa Koryoo’s campaign focused on addressing pressing local issues, resonating with voters and ultimately leading to her success.
This result is part of broader gains made by the NDC in the 2024 general elections, further solidifying their position in Parliament.
“It has been a hard-fought win for me. Kasoa is now free and will see development under my watch,” Naa Koryoo Okunnor said.
There was a huge crowd at the forecourt of the Central East Regional Police Command where party supporters of the NDC had gathered waiting for the final declaration of the result.
