NPP was not invited to National Economic Dialogue – Manso Nkwanta MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Manso Nkwanta, Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not formally invited to participate in the recently held National Economic Dialogue, an event organised by the government of President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr. Fokuo made this claim during a discussion on The Big Issue on Channel One TV.

The dialogue, aimed at addressing Ghana’s ongoing economic challenges, was expected to bring together key political figures, economic experts, and stakeholders to deliberate on policies and strategies to stabilise and grow Ghana’s economy.

Addressing concerns raised by certain sections of the Ghanaian public regarding the absence of the NPP, the largest opposition party, at the dialogue, the Manso Nkwanta lawmaker insisted that the government failed to extend a formal invitation to the party.

“We have heard these complaints about the NPP not being represented and all that but my personal checks could not hit on any formal invitation. There is no written invitation to the party that I am aware of. I haven’t come across any invitation.”

His comments come in response to growing public discourse about the absence of the NPP at the event, with some critics suggesting that the party had deliberately chosen not to attend.

Others had even accused the NPP of avoiding a national conversation on economic solutions, arguing that their participation would have been crucial in shaping a bipartisan approach to resolving Ghana’s economic difficulties.

However, Mr. Fokuo dismissed these assertions, placing the blame squarely on the government’s shoulders for failing to ensure the opposition’s representation at the dialogue.

He stated that it was the responsibility of President Mahama’s administration to ensure that all major political stakeholders were properly invited, especially considering that the NPP remains a key player in Ghana’s political and economic discourse.
