Safe Water Network Ghana has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to provide safe and affordable water to communities across the country.

Over the past year alone, the organization has expanded its operations to reach an additional 55,000 people in 10 communities, bringing its total reach to 504,000 people across 158 communities.

Country Director of Safe Water Network Ghana, Charles Nimako, expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing the importance of sustainable water solutions.

“Together with our fellow implementers in the Safe Water Enterprise Alliance, we are now reaching more than 2 million Ghanaians with safe, affordable water,” he stated.

Beyond the Pipe Forum Calls for Innovation and Collaboration

The annual Beyond the Pipe Forum, hosted by Safe Water Network, officially opened yesterday with a strong call for innovation and collaboration to enhance safe water access across Ghana.

Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding sustainable water services nationwide.

Speaking at the event, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West emphasized the government’s recognition of the scale of the challenge and its investments in infrastructure, institutional reforms, and digital innovation to accelerate progress.

“The government alone cannot solve all the challenges in the water sector,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships. Organizations like Safe Water Network and members of the Safe Water Enterprise (SWE) Alliance are playing a crucial role in bridging service gaps, particularly in peri-urban and rural areas.

She further commended Safe Water Network for its social enterprise approach, which has successfully deployed solar-powered water stations, water ATMs, and prepaid piped connections that enable mobile money payments. These innovations, according to the Deputy Minister, align with national efforts to professionalize water service delivery and ensure financial sustainability.

The Deputy Minister also urged Safe Water Network to collaborate effectively with the Ghana Community Water and Sanitation Agency and the Ghana Water Company Limited to expand access to safe drinking water across the country.

“It is critical that, with about five years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, we ensure that our investments are directed in the right way,” she said.

About Beyond the Pipe

The Beyond the Pipe Forum has become a cornerstone of thought leadership and collaborative action in Ghana’s water sector. As discussions unfold, participants from government, the private sector, and development organizations will explore strategies to drive lasting change—ensuring that safe, reliable water reaches every Ghanaian.

About Safe Water Network

Safe Water Network was co-founded in 2006 by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman and former Goldman Sachs chairman John Whitehead to address the pressing global challenge of water access.

The organization works to reach millions in underserved communities by developing affordable and equitable solutions. It also accelerates access by providing technical assistance and catalyzing sector-wide collaboration.
