The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that a section of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD) would be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic to allow for critical sectional repair works.

According to a statement issued and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the closure would commence at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and end at 12:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The affected stretch includes the U-turn area at Lava and the section from the Derby Avenue/Kwame Nkrumah Avenue intersection to the Selwyn Market Street/Kwame Nkrumah Avenue intersection.

The AMA explained that the decision to undertake the works had become necessary due to severe depressions and potholes that had developed along the road, impeding the smooth flow of traffic and posing safety risks to motorists and pedestrians.

During the closure period, motorists have been advised to use alternative routes and comply with traffic management measures that will be put in place to ensure public safety and minimise inconvenience.

The AMA indicated that appropriate directional signs would be mounted, and personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service would be deployed to guide traffic.

The statement further noted that after the sectional repairs have been completed, paving works will be undertaken to enhance the durability and overall condition of the road.

“The AMA deeply regrets any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause and appeals to all road users and residents to cooperate as the Assembly works to improve road infrastructure, enhance mobility, and promote safer and more efficient transportation within the city,” the release added.
