President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish an Education Fund to support the children left behind by victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking during the third day funeral rites (Adua) of Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed on Tuesday, August 12, the President said the fund would be formally launched during the state funeral scheduled for Friday, August 15.
“There will be a state funeral on Friday, 15th August. At the funeral, we will announce some programmes for creating a fund that will assist with the education of the children. Friday, I will announce the details of that, so that people who want to contribute to the future of the children they have left behind will have the opportunity to do so.

“I believe that Allah will have mercy on him, forgive him for all his sins, and accept him,” President Mahama stated.
The initiative comes in the wake of the tragic helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District, which claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong.

Also killed in the accident were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

On Sunday, August 10, Ghanaians gathered to pay their final respects to Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed.

The upcoming state funeral at the Black Star Square will honour all the victims and mark the official unveiling of the education fund.
