The government has announced that the extension of the runway at the Prempeh Agyemang I International Airport is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
The Ministry of Transport had earlier announced the extension of the runway from its original length of 1,981 meters to 2,320 meters. This upgrade is aimed at accommodating medium-sized aircraft and enhancing international flight operations.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, September 17, the Transport Minister Joseph Nikpe said that the project is currently 90 per cent complete.
“Following the completion of a new terminal building at the Prempeh Agyemang I International Airport, the runway, which currently measures 1,981 meters in length, is being extended to 2,320 meters to accommodate medium-sized aircraft and facilitate international flight operations.
“The project is 90% complete, and it’s expected to be completed by the end of this year,” he stated.
He further disclosed that night operations at the Prempeh Agyemang I and the Tamale airports have been extended, in support of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
“Night operations have been extended at Prempeh Agyemang I airports from 8 pm to 11 pm. At the Tamale airport, from 6 pm to 10 pm, supporting the government’s 24-hour economy policy and enhancing passenger convenience,” he announced.
