Authorities at the Elubo Government Hospital say the persistent refusal of health personnel to accept postings to the facility has left key units and modern equipment underutilised.
Medical Superintendent of the 65-bed hospital, Dr Zachariah Musah, raised the concern during a visit by Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, on Sunday, September 28.

He explained that although the facility is new, well-equipped, and even attracts patients from neighbouring Ivory Coast, operations are being hampered by a shortage of staff.
Elubo, the capital of the Jomoro Municipality and the largest town on Ghana’s western border with the Ivory Coast, has a large population made up of residents, travellers, as well as customs and immigration personnel. To meet their health needs, the Elubo Government Hospital was commissioned in 2023 with modern infrastructure.
The hospital has a capacity for 120 staff, but both the Medical Superintendent and the Hospital Administrator noted that the continued refusal of postings is crippling its operations, partly due to the lack of adequate accommodation for personnel.
Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, visibly disappointed, questioned why the Ghana Health Service continues to keep and pay health workers who refuse transfers to places where their services are urgently needed.

In a related development, Immigration officials at Elubo also raised concerns about the absence of a designated parking area for trucks carrying chemicals used in mining explosives. They explained that, due to the lack of appropriate facilities, such trucks are often forced to park dangerously within the town during processing.

The Immigration Service also appealed for permanent accommodation for its personnel. In response, the Regional Minister directed the Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive to ensure proper parking facilities for trucks transporting explosives and to prioritise accommodation needs for security officers.
