The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has defended the party’s decision to initiate expulsion proceedings against former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, following his remarks describing the party as “fake.”

In an interview on Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng stated that the current NPP does not reflect the party he belongs to, insisting that it has strayed from its original values.

Reacting to these comments, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong told Citi News on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, that the party’s actions are fully in line with its constitution.

“The party is governed by laws and therefore when a person makes a statement which constitutes a misconduct, the party has to follow due process and that is what we have done as a party.

“Professor Frimpong-Boateng made a careless statement which we were not expecting from a man of his stature,” he explained.

According to Mr. Frimpong Kodua, the party views such remarks as highly damaging to its unity, values, and public image, and is therefore compelled to take action within the framework of its internal regulations.

“Ideally, I should have written a letter to expel him from the party based on what he has said or if even he had an integrity, I would have expected that by this morning he would have written a letter to the party to have officially resigned from the party but he has not done that.

“But as a party, as I indicated, which follows due process, we have to take him through the process which is to refer to article 444 of our constitution which the national executive committee has that power to expel him from the party.”
