Fiifi Kwetey: We cannot afford to disappoint Ghanaians

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that the John Dramani Mahama-led administration cannot afford to disappoint Ghanaians, stressing that the party recognises the weight of expectations placed on it after assuming office in January 2025.

According to him, the electorate has entrusted the NDC with a significant national responsibility, and the government is determined to justify that confidence through policies and leadership that deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM, Fifi Kwetey admitted that governing in the current economic and social climate would not be easy, but insisted that the party is committed to what he described as a national reset aimed at restoring confidence in public leadership and institutions.

“Simply accusing the NPP is not enough. As far as I am concerned, a lot more is expected of us. Because, as you know, to whom a lot is given, a lot is expected. And the people of Ghana have given us a lot of responsibility.

“And we owe it to especially the young generation of Ghanaians to make sure that the examples we are setting are different. We cannot continue like as business as usual. I know it may not be a very easy path, but it is a path some of us are willing to fight for.”

His remarks reflect growing awareness within the governing party of the high expectations among Ghanaians, particularly young people who are looking for improved job opportunities, economic stability, and more transparent governance.

He suggested that the NDC understands that political messaging alone will not satisfy the public and that concrete action is required to demonstrate a break from past governance patterns.
