The Ministry of Education has inaugurated a five-member Audit Committee aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and sound financial management within the education sector.

The development was made known in a post on Facebook by the Ministry.

According to the post, the Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Abass Apaak, delivered remarks on behalf of the Minister and described the inauguration as a significant step towards reinforcing good governance within the Ministry.

He explained that the reconstitution of the Audit Committee is in line with Section 86(1) of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), which mandates the establishment of audit committees in public institutions to ensure effective oversight of financial management.

Dr. Apaak reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the prudent use of public resources, expressing confidence that the Committee’s independent oversight would help strengthen internal controls, enhance risk management processes and ensure strict compliance with audit recommendations.

The Deputy Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy to the members.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the Committee selected a Chairperson, who assured management of its readiness to work collaboratively to improve systems and promote financial discipline within the Ministry.

Management of the Ministry also pledged its full support to enable the Committee to effectively discharge its statutory responsibilities in accordance with the Public Financial Management Act.
