The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School by some students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) during this year’s district inter-schools athletics competition.

The incident reportedly took place in Agona Swedru on Thursday, February 19, when tensions between students of the two participating schools escalated into a physical confrontation.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that what began as a rivalry during the sporting event quickly degenerated into clashes, resulting in the brutal assault of the Obrachire SHTS student.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 23,  on Facebook, the police confirmed that investigations have formally commenced and assured the public that the matter is being treated with urgency.

According to the statement, officers are working to identify all individuals involved in the attack and to establish the sequence of events that led to the violence.

The police further condemned the actions of the students involved, stressing that acts of violence at school events undermine the spirit of sportsmanship and threaten public safety.
