The Ghana Air Force has announced the delivery of a newly acquired Airbus H175 helicopter from France.
This development represents a key step in the ongoing modernisation and retooling of its operational fleet, forming part of a wider defence procurement programme approved by Parliament to bolster the capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a statement posted on its official social media handles on Thursday, March 5, the Ghana Air Force explained that the state-of-the-art helicopter was ferried from Marignane, France, and touched down in Accra, Ghana, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, following the successful completion of all technical acceptance procedures with the manufacturer, Airbus Helicopters.
Upon its arrival, the Acting Defence Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, along with Deputy Defence Minister Brogya Genfi and other state officials, inspected the aircraft, which is set to enhance the operations of the Ghana Air Force.
The acquisition follows Ghana’s placement of its first-ever order for multi-mission Airbus helicopters on January 15, 2026, marking a significant step toward strengthening the country’s defence, security and air transport capabilities.
Airbus Helicopters announced on Friday, January 15, 2026, that it had secured a contract from Ghana’s Ministry of Defence for the supply of four helicopters—two H175Ms, one ACH175, and one ACH160.
The acquisition aligns with government plans outlined during the presentation of the 2026 Budget in Parliament on November 13, 2025. At the time, the Finance Minister disclosed that the government would, beginning in 2026, commence procurement processes for four modern helicopters, alongside one long-range and one medium-range aircraft, to enhance the operational efficiency of the Ghana Air Force.
