The Mayor of Tema, Ebi Bright, has disclosed that the TMA Daycare Centre is likely to reopen on Monday, March 30, following its closure after a microlight aircraft crash on its premises.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, March 16, claimed two lives, left teachers and pupils traumatised, and led to the temporary shutdown of the facility to allow for investigations and the removal of the wreckage.

Speaking to Citi News, the Mayor said teachers, pupils, residents, and other affected persons have received psychological and psychosocial support from the Mental Health Authority.

“We’ve had a few requests to reconsider opening sooner, which is why we’re looking at Monday. But before that happens, currently ongoing are slight renovation works just to lift the environment up,” he said.

She added that, in the interim, pupils who were willing and able to continue their studies have been absorbed into other TMA facilities, where they are receiving temporary academic support.

Meanwhile, the final funeral rites and burial for the two victims—Frank Amoanyi Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor—are scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026. The ceremony will take place at the forecourt of the State House.

“This Saturday, March 28, we will go to support the burial of two heroes who perished on our soil. They’re an inspiration to us because of their character.

“If you look at the details of what happened, you realise that they did all the best they could to make sure that their crash did not take with it more lives than it needed to,” she said.
